Week 7

One true and Mighty King

He rode in to town on a donkey. A humble entrance for the One true and Mighty King. Any other entrance however, would not have suited the character of God. This King, as great and as majestic as He is had a purpose of much simpler beginnings. It was to know you and I and to be known.

Why would this King need to be known by us? It was to know and acknowledge He who would reign over the heavens and the earth, displaying His splendor and power across the nations giving you and me a hope in salvation that is found in no one else. This great and mighty King came to Jerusalem on a donkey to give you and I the hope that we may know Him.

He took on flesh and became fully man and fully God so that we may have hope. It was through this man, this King, that we place our worship. It is in Him that we may find forgiveness and mercy, grace and hope. It is in Him that we give thanks in all things as we wait for His return.

He arrived humbly the first time to establish His Kingdom, He departed simply with the promise of a final return to reign in His Kingdom. So as we wait, we wait with hope, we remember His promise each week as we come together to at the communion table.

As you read this week, consider the promises that He has made and how He has fulfilled those promises in your life. Consider what blessings He has bestowed through His grace and through His mercy. What are the gifts that you’ve received that you didn’t deserve? What have you deserved that He has withheld?

Pray that He would continue to show you His majesty in your life. Pray that His splendor would be demonstrated through how you live your life. Pray that those around you would know Him and He would be known in Grand Island.

Day 1

His Kingdom

Read Revelation 11:15

In this passage the Kingdom of Jesus is introduced.

  1. We often speak of the Kingdom, where is it?  What does it mean that Jesus is the king of the world?  Do we neglect our duties when we forget that Jesus’ kingdom is the world?  How?
  2. How great is our God that the world will surrender to Him?

Day 2

His Power

Read Revelation 11:16-17

In this passage the Jesus is worshiped for His existence, His power, and His rule.

  1. What makes the existence of God different from our existence?  How is that worthy of worship?
  2. What makes God’s power different from the world’s power?  How is that worthy of worship?
  3. What makes Jesus’ reign different from that of earthly kings?  How is that worthy of worship?

Day 3

His Justice

Read Revelation 11:18-19

In this passage the Jesus is worshiped for His justice and wrath.

  1. What makes God’s justice different from human justice?  Do we ever get it wrong?  Does He?  How is that justice worthy of worship?
  2. Here Jesus is worshiped for his wrath and destroying people, why is Jesus worshiped for this?  On whom does this wrath land?  How is God’s wrath worthy of worship?

Day 4

His Mercy

Read Psalm 30

This passage describes the depths of God’s Mercy

  1. What is the psalmist praising God for?  How did he obtain God’s mercy?
  2. What was the psalmist’s claim on God for mercy, i.e. what would stop if the psalmist died?  Beside worship, is there any other that you can provide God?
  3. What does God’s Mercy produce in the psalmist?  Have you had a time when God’s mercy moved you like that?

Day 5

Hosanna

Read Matthew 21:7-11

This passage is Jesus’ entry to Jerusalem.  The crowd shouts, “Hosanna,” which means “Save now.”

  1. Why does worship tend to focus around salvation?
  2. Because of the commotion people came to find out about Jesus?  Has the story of your salvation inspired another to find out more about Jesus?  Have you shared the story of your salvation?  If not, why not?

Day 6

His Departure

Read Acts 1:9-11

This passage describes Jesus’ departure from earth.

  1. We often look up to the sky when thinking of Jesus.  Is Jesus in the sky or space?  Why do we look up?  Can we make a mistake by looking up too much?
  2. Jesus is returning in the same way He left.  Do you live like He is returning?

Day 7

His Temple Opens

Read Revelation 11:19

This passage verse shows God’s Temple opening.

  1. When the temple opens what is revealed?  The Ark of the Covenant represented God’s presence with Israel, what does its depiction here mean?  Where is God’s presence going?
  2. When the temple opens what natural events happen?  Are these pictures of God’s wrath, nature declaring God’s glory, or both?
